Prizegiving

Hi Whanau

We are sitting in the third and fourth row of the very front section right by the stage tonight.  Please make sure your child comes there when they get to the Regent.  After prizegiving has finished, please come and pick up your child from their seat.  Make sure that their teacher sees you.  Thank you so much.

Last newsletter of the year....

Reading Books

Hi Whanau

Just a quick message to say...  please note that we are returning all reading books back to the resource room for stocktake at the start of next week.  This means that your child will not be bringing home any reading books in their book bags.  It's a great idea to continue reading over the summer break so we encourage you to visit the local library.

Thanks

Toa Pod's first week back was full of interesting activities from tennis to planning and making items to display at Ag Day. We had heaps of fun and a great day on Saturday. Many students were given certificates for the great effort they had put into their pet rocks, canvas paintings and cupcake decorating. Well done to those students. Here are a few photos-

Inquiry - Why Do People Live Differently Celebration

Toa Pod teachers and students had a great afternoon on Wednesday learning how to make Teepee's, erect tents and make beds to conclude our Inquiry for this term. Students worked in small groups and showed what they have learned about working collaboratively.

Inquiry Time

We were super lucky to have a guest speaker as part of our Inquiry this term.  Our visitor was from Myanmar but had to flee because the soldiers came and burnt down her village.  She escaped to Thailand and then moved to New Zealand.  Before she came to NZ she worked as a Community Health Education Officer in a refugee camp.  NZ is a much safer place to be!

3 Way Interviews

A BIG reminder....

We have 3 way interviews in Week 9 (Monday 14th - Thursday 17th).  This is an opportunity for your child to share their learning with you.  They will be doing most of the talking about what they are proud of, what they have gotten better at and what they would like to improve upon.

Please make a booking and support your child with their learning.  We would love to see you all!!

If you can't make a booking (www.schoolinterviews.co.nz) then please come and see your child's Homeroom teacher so they can make one for you.

See you then!!

Stationery

Hi de ho

It's that time of year where your child is starting to fill up their books.  Where possible, we will send your child to the office to get a new book and the cost will be put on to your account.  We will try and remember to let you know when we have done this.  Just letting you know so you don't have any surprise amounts on your account.

Many thanks

Jack and the Jumping Beanstalk

On Wednesday we all had the pleasure of watching Jack  Flash and the jumping Bean Stalk.  It’s an environmental emergency of preposterous proportions! Giant pieces of garbage keep dropping on the inhabitants of A Land Far Far Away and nobody knows who’s responsible. It was a great show and we all laughed and laughed. Thank you New Zealand Playhouse.  You were amazing.

Te Manawa

What a cool day we had (both in temperature and the amount of fun we had!).  It was an absolute blast to make butter and pikelets, hang out the washing and iron it with olden days irons, dress up and go to school (where the teacher was really mean and scary!!!).  In The Square we did a scavenger hunt and learnt things like; the duck pond is in the shape of a butterfly and you can play giant chess! Wow!!  We went for a walk through the public library and enjoyed some time reading books (and getting warm).

Thank you so much to our parent helpers (and all of those that volunteered).  We couldn't have done it without you.

Super Heroes in Action

We have been reading a big book about super heroes and their manners.

This afternoon we spent some time writing about what we would do as a super hero.  We have made an awesome book so make sure you come in and check it out!

We also created some masks so we can really use our special powers :P

Te Manawa

Thank you so much for those of you who have returned the permission slip for Te Manawa.  These need to be back by Friday at the latest.  Many thanks.  Thank you also to those who have indicated they can be a parent helper.  We really appreciate your support and will email you at a later date.

Please, please, please

We know it's cold and some of you will be using lots of newspaper to light your fires, but... if you have any spare, we would love it as we need it for our art.  We are also running really low on black bic pens and pencils if you have any spare (we seriously have a pen and pencil eating monster in our Pod!!).

Thanks so much :)

Cultural Time

During Cultural Time on Fridays, one of the rotations is singing.  This YouTube clip showcases our great singing.
